Comment by Peter Rob: Note the locations of the U. S. Air Force "label" and the USAF star on this "C" model. Those were later migrated to the standard mid-1950s locations, e.g. the star was moved just in front of the "break" between the fuselage and the burner can, while the U. S. Air Force label was moved to the front of the fuselage. The 53-1640 serial number indicates an aircraft produced in 1953, so I suspect that this photo was taken during the 1953-1954 period. In any case, 53-1640 is shown in its early glory days, when bare aluminum and bright squadron markings were still in vogue.
