Photo of a 1/48-scale model made by Peter Rob. The paint work on this model depicts this aircraft as it was assigned to the 04/011 (Jura) squadron that operated in Djibouti, Africa, during the June, 1972 through December, 1978 period. Lt. Croci, who flew the F-100 in the Jura squadron, drew the shark’s head that was then painted by Sgt. Morel. This paint scheme was then adopted for all 11 F-100s in the Jura squadron. The ventral fin carries a picture of a hawk’s head -- the mechanics wanted to use this drawing to commemorate the nose art carried by the B-25J Mitchell that was flown by the 498th squadron (Falcons) in 1945. The name of a pilot and of the aircraft’s mechanics was painted below the cockpit, the first time this was done on a jet aircraft in the French Air Force.
