Photo of a 1/48 scale model of 56-3189 as flown by Walt Bruce during the 1958 TAC gunnery meet held at George AFB, CA. (The aircraft shows the special markings used during that gunnery meet.) At the time, 56-3189 was assigned to the 309th FBS, 31st FBW, based at Turner AFB, GA. Photo of a 1/48-scale Revell/Monogram model made by Peter Rob. Aluminum skin is Bare Metal Foil, using a mix of various aluminum shades ranging from matte to polished aluminum. Burner can section is airbrushed, using five different shades of dark aluminum, titanium, and "burnt metal" to match the typical burner can discoloration resulting from the high afterburner heat.
