Comment by Duane Clawson: VP on the tail indicates a 614TFS plane. 56-3301 was assigned to the 614th from September 6, 1968, to January 21, 1969, on which day it is listed as crashed.

Unlike most F-100s, 301 flew three missions a day: 7 am, 10:40 and 2:30. It required very little maintenance and just kept flying and flying.....until the evening of January 26, 1969.

Here's a series of pictures of "my" airplane, 56-3301. The top picture shows 301 in flight, the center one shows 301 resting in its revetment, and the bottom one shows the aftermath of the rocket attack that destroyed her. All nicely framed in a single cherry wood frame hanging on the wall of my office.

This is a picture of 56-3301. I am the cockpit with a pilot’s helmet on. I was probably listening to Radio Viet Nam or something. Now and then I would do that if it was really hot outside. I would start the engine, close the canopy and turn the A/C on while listening to the radio.

This is a picture of 56-3301 taken from the plane flying off its wing. It is the one of the photos you see in my framed photo picture that depicts the life of 301.

This is the one of the photos that’s part of the framed photo set of the wreckage, which depicted the life of 56-3301, resting in N5. Ultimately they towed it out of the revetment with a bulldozer. There was an airplane next-door (N4) that melted during the attack and I think it was 072. I had a picture of that one, but can't find it now.
