Before I (Charlie Cafarelli) was a crew chief on my own aircraft, I worked on tail #383, as known as "thunder chicken." (Aircraft serial number 56-3383.) It crashed, nose first into the end of the runway. This photo shows it sitting on the trailer after it was recovered. Comment by Duane Clawson: This picture shows 56-3383 (Thunderchicken) when it was assigned to the 612TFS at Phan Rang AB, RVN. I got there in September, 1969, and Thunderchicken was the control tower favorite bird, as it was parked directly under the control tower and they could look right down into the revetment. She landed short shortly after dark on 25 October, 1970. The pilot, from another squadron, walked away unhurt and was almost run over by a responding fire truck.
